The Chinese American Society of Mass Spectrometry (CASMS) annual meeting
was held on June 15, 1999 in Dallas, Texas. Despite a thunder storm and heavy,
pouring rain, one hundred and forty-seven members attended the meeting. We
especially thank our president, Huayi Tong, for his efforts in finding a meeting
place.
Highlights of the meeting:
- CASMS Directory
Secretary, Tacheng Hsieh, had e-mailed our directory to all members in
December 1998. In addition, hard copies of the directory were distributed at
the meeting. Member profiles we collected at this meeting will be updated.
We now have the directory online for your
convenience. Contact Tacheng Hsieh
for any corrections or questions regarding the directory.
- Membership Fee
Members that attended the meeting paid their membership fees. The funds
we collected will be used for general administrative expenses. We are working
on creating our own Web home page and the expenses of maintaining it on the
Web will be coming from these funds. For those who could not attend the
meeting but would like to pay their membership fees or make contributions,
contact our CFO, Jia-Shen Wang.
- Meeting Photographs
As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." The
memorable moments of the 1999 meeting were captured in pictures by David
Chang, of Hoffmann La Roche, Inc. You may view these pictures
here. David, thank you for keeping
these memories alive.
Since our first meeting in 1981, our group has grown in size and stature.
As the new millennium is approaching, we would like to hear from you for ideas
on the future direction of our group, including ways to impact ASMS and better
disseminate scientific information among the community. If you would like to
share your ideas with us, please contact our president,
Huayi Tong. Remember, our goals are
creativity and collaboration.
